It is with great pride Whistle Bear GC announces the 2013 Whistle Bear
Junior Performance Team. The team program is moving into the seventh year of
developing some of the finest junior golfers in the Ontario and Canada. The
team keeps stamping out elite junior golfers, tournament champions, award
winners, scholarship recipients and fine young men and women.
"we are so thrilled with the continued tradition of our Junior Performance
Team, we at Whistle Bear couldn't be prouder of our junior representatives and
all they have accomplished" said Managing Partner Brad Duench.
With the constant support from the Whistle Bear owners, management and
members the Whistle Bear Junior Performance Team remains the benchmark for all
other junior programs in North America. The team made up of 49 junior golfers
in various ages and stages of development. They have the opportunity to train
under the guidance of Head Coach and Ontario PGA Teaching Professional of the
Year, Dave Smallwood. These talented juniors are supported by a large group of
professionals that are leaders in their industry. PGA of Canada Professionals
Mike Skimson, Mark Wilson, Mike Martz and Carrie Vaughan are joined by Sport
Physiologist Dr. Rich Ennis, Golf Club Fitting Technician Greg Bullock and
Certified Fitness Expert Angella Lee to provide all the tools needed to advance
their skill to the highest level.
The team members travel from as far away as Strathroy and Kincardine, with
the bulk of them from the Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Brantford and Cambridge
area. The players range in age from 9-18 and follow the Golf Canada Long -Term
Player Development Guide. They are categorized in the New Competitor,
Developing Competitor, and Advanced Competitor categories to ensure the correct
development for their age and experience levels.

"We have an exceptional class of players this year and I am particularly
pleased with the girls team and their growth from only 1 member in 2010 to 13
on the 2013 team. The inception of the Girls New Competitor Team allows us to
grow the game with younger girls who have shown a great passion for the game.
Credit goes to our LPGA Professional Theresa McDermott who drives the younger
girls to our New Competitor Girls Team through our Future Links Program"

- Professional Coaching (February 1 – October 31)
- 1-60 minute instruction session per week
(Feb/Mar/Apr) group 6 player – 1 instructor ratio
- Spring Golf Summit
- 1- 90 minute Team practice per week
- 8- 45 minute individual lessons per team
member per season
- Periodic on course training sessions
- Opportunity to work with team Sport Psychologist

- Rule seminars and testing
