Whistle Bear Junior Performance Team Member Trevor Ranton Won the Junior Masters Championship read news article below for details:
EAST AURORA, N.Y.-Rain delayed the championship match of the International Jr. Masters Golf tournament for nearly 90 minutes Friday at the East Aurora Country Club. Trevor Ranton beat Raul Pereda 5 & 3 to win the championship.
Despite heavy rains somehow East Aurora CC pro Chris Kulinski and the entire staff and grounds crew kept the course in great shape despite the elements.
Trevor Ranton from Waterloo Ontario in Canada and Raul Pereda from Cordobe Mexico played in the championship match. The players had started to play the second hole when the rains came and play was stopped. When play was resumed Ranton and Pereda were as evenly matched as possible with neither gaining more than a one hole advantage. They were even through 10 holes then Ranton won the final five holes to finish it at the 15th hole.
Ranton told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar “the back nine I think for sure. Well, mainly eight because that’s when I started hitting good shots. And then the back stretch where I birdied 11, 12, and had a four footer on 13. That was where it ended I think.Honestly I think it was just focusing more on my swing tips basically and then once I started hitting good shots then it was confidence and that was it.”
Ranton was the last player to qualify for the championship flight. In his own mind he wasn’t a favorite to win the Jr. Masters but when he did he told Stu “Pretty pumped. I didn’t really expect this coming into the week but I don’t know. It feels really good.”
